I heard it told that when St. John, the Beloved Disciple, in his old age and physical ailments would be brought before groups of Christians and asked quite frequently what they needed to do to win heaven. His reply was always what Christ told the disciples at the Last Supper, "Love one another as I have loved you". He said that was the 'new and great Commandment".
