Comparative reality stinks. If you are one of those people who have managed to skip through life without dragging the baggage of comparative reality with you, you are a far better person than I am (oh dear, comparative reality raising its ugly head and I am only finishing my second sentence).
Goodness knows I have read enough personal development books, articles, and blogs. So many that one would think that I could have taken away enough words of wisdom from the likes of John Maxwell, James Clear, Mel Robbins, as well as those here on Medium to move forward in creating the incredible life I see these successful people leading. Comparative reality, ugh.
That it hasn’t worked for me is not a reflection of what any of these gurus have written or done. I say this with all due respect. It hasn’t worked for me simply because as soon as I commit to making the smallest of changes in my habits based on following The Miracle Morning or The 5-Second Rule, something comes along to derail me. Demands on my time by those living in our multi-generational home is the biggest time-sucker of them all. My spouse not-so-gently nudges me to set aside time to write every day, however, he doesn’t try to manage a diverse household.
