The whole topic of ideology, especially in theological areas, is nothing new. Think about the religious-political turmoil at the time Christ. God walked the earth in the Person of Jesus to teach and show us what we couldn't grasp in the thousands of years of Old Testament history: how to be holy and happy in God's service.

His words did not mesh with the ideologies of the times and He was executed as a result (all thoughts about the Redemption aside, which is a another level of thought).

What happened after as the Church has tried to continue His mission to teach, govern, and sanctify souls was and continues to be a firestorm.

One supposes that all this boils down to our fallen nature getting in the way, where all ideologies become someone's truth which have to be accepted. The result has been chaos which I don't think will be resolved until Christ comes again.
